Shamokin Area High School Alumni Association
Minutes – October 7th, 2015
23 members attended the meeting which began at 7pm.
President Todd Nye ’89 called the meeting to order.
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT:
Nothing to report. Chris Venna usually attends later in the year.
SECRETARY REPORT:
Minutes from the Banquet (5/28/2015) are available on the Web. Maxine Howerter Harvey ’83 made motion to accept and Susan Krupinski Haas ’75 seconded the motion. All were in favor.
TREASURER’S REPORT:
Bill Korbich ’54 officially turned over the job duties to new Treasurer Gregory Dwulet ’68. Greg reported the balance in the general fund checkbook is at $19,404.12. Last years at this time it was $16,920.33, a positive difference of $2,483.79. Full financial details through the end of the year will be available in the newsletter when published in the spring.
H.Robert Mattis, ESQ. ’68 drew up a resolution of the Shamokin Area High School Alumni Association on the date (10/7/2015) which was approved and adopted. Motion approved will reinvest dividends to cash rather than stock with a McCormick stock fund the association manages for an award. Change is needed to have sufficient funds available for distribution. The resolution was sign by all officers present. It has been placed on file with the Secretary.
COMMUNICATIONS:
Thank you notes were received from the following:
- SAHS Student Council.
- Class of 2015 scholarship and awards winners (Cierra Zimmerman, Darian R. Jones, Kiersten Marie Stasko, Kayla Marchetti, Eliajh Zablosky, Tyler Candelora, Richard Brown, Jill Britton, Tevin Gonzalez, Taylor Tobias, Abby Mangiaruga, Emily Kotanchik & Joshua Rosini).
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
After Glow: No report at this time.
Auditing: Susan Kropinski Haas ’75 reported that audit by Jacob Schneider CPA is complete and OK. Jacob will be moving, where we will need to secure services from another provider. This committee position is currently open for the alumni association.
Awards: Details of the awards are found in the newsletter and on the web site. Susan Kropinski Hass ’75 made a motion for Sandy Dilliplane Rossnock ’92 to be on awards committee, seconded by Maxine Howerter Harvey ‘83. Sandy works at the school. Being at that location, she can help coordinate the year end activity needed for award processing. Sandy to review the web site for accuracy (number of awards and details).
Banquet: John Klinger ’68 reports the banquet for Saturday May 28th 2016 will be at Masser’s Banquet Hall, Paxinos, PA. Menu options will be discussed at the January meeting.
By-Laws: H.Robert Mattis, ESQ.’68 reported no changes are needed at this time.
Class Representatives: Jeff Clutcher ’78 reported the following removed: William Fredrick ’39 (passed away). Michael Muskey ‘50 (passed away). Additionally, Tyler Candelora and Rhiannon McKinney from the class of 2015 were added as class reps.
Education Fund: Susan Kropinski Hass ’75 reported a meeting is scheduled for the end of October. A report will be given at the January meeting.
Entertainment: Nothing to report at this time. Irvin Liachowitz ’42 and Maxine Howerter Harvey ’83 will give an update at the January meeting.
Invitations: Sandra Dilliplane Rossnock ’92 will give an update at the January meeting. It was noted that information will need to be available from all parties by the end of January for the publisher to start to pull together the newsletter.
Memorabilia: Jeff Clutcher ’78 has nothing new to report.
Nominations: John Clutcher ’74 reported that a male vice president for the May 2016 banquet is needed. Some activity is being made to see if we have an interested alumni to fill the position. We rotate male/female officers. Discussion to continue at the January meeting.
Programs: Nothing to report at this time. John Schankweiler ’53 asked to be removed from the committee.
Publicity: Jamie Hoffman Bordell ’75 was nominated by Susan Kropinski Hass ’75 and seconded by John Clutcher ’74 to move from “Acting” to “Permanent”. Motion was approved.
Website: John Clutcher ’74 provided an update on the website and Facebook usage. Facebook membership has increased from 50 at the April meeting to 60. John also gave an update on the alumni association trying to set up a stand at a football game. October 2nd was a rainout to attend, but we will plan to be at the homecoming game on Friday October 23rd – Montoursville at Shamokin.
OLD BUSINESS:
None to report.
NEW BUSINESS:
Jeff and John Cluther will set up a stand at the football game between Shamokin and Montoursville on October 23rd. The stand will include information cards about the alumni association. A basket raffle (free to enter) was put together by Jeff Clutcher and his wife Kathy to help promote activity to the table.
General discussion concerning the 50th anniversary of the jointure and the interest in an alumni band next fall at a football game were discussed. Further review at another meeting, possibly placing something in the newsletter.

Winter Meeting - Wednesday January 20th, 2016 at Grace Lutheran Church – Fellowship Hall downstairs. 7pm start time.
Spring Meeting - Wednesday April 20th, 2016 at Grace Lutheran Church – Fellowship Hall downstairs. 7pm start time.
Motion for adjournment was made by Maxine Howerter Harvey ’83 and seconded by H.Robert Mattis ESQ. ’68. Motion passed, meeting adjourned at 7:58pm.
